Pinoys win 3 titles

Top Filipino shooter Jeufro “Jag” Lejano led an impressive performance by the Filipinos in the recently concluded International Practical Shooting Confederation World Shooting Championship in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Lejano emerged champion in the Modified division of the tournament, which is also known as the World Shoot XIV, held last Aug. 22-28.

Also taking the gold was Danny Torrevillas, who ruled the Senior category of the Production division, while Iloilo-based Phillipp Chua landed fourth in the Revolver Standard division.

Olympics

The world shoot is held only once every three years and is considered the Olympics of the practical sport shooting.

In the Modified division, the Philippine Team – composed of Lejano, Nelson Uygongco, Lyndon Biraogo and Joseph Sy – fielded by the Philippine Practical Shooting Association (PPSA) successfully defended its crown.

Ygongco finished third in the individual event, Biraogo fifth and Sy sixth.

“Not only have our Filipino shooters retained top team honors in the Modified division, but for the first time in the history of the PPSA, a Filipino shooter has emerged as world-shoot champion,” said Rep. Juan Ponce Enrile Jr., the IPSC Regional Director for the Philippines.
