Upsets Panthers, enjoys best season in Cesafi By Glenn C. Michelena Sun.Star Correspondent
Enrico Llanto, a former high-school jug-gernaut whose college career has been by hampered by injuries, finally registered his breakout game Thursday night, and it couldn’t have happened at a better time for the University San Carlos (USC) Warriors.
The Warriors, boosted by Llanto’s devastating play inside, ended their first-round tour with a rousing 84-81 victory over the University of Southern Philippines (USP) Panthers before a throng of hostile pro-Panthers fans at the USP Gym.
The Warriors’ younger comrades, however, went through an entirely different episode in their foray into the Panthers’ den. The USP Baby Panthers devoured the visiting Baby Warriors, 82-75, earlier in the 2005 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc.
Thursday tripleheader, which also featured the Don Bosco Technological Center (DBTC) Greywolves’ 84-73 upset of the University of Cebu (UC) Baby Webmasters.
The round-capping win of the Warriors raised their season record to 3-2, their best start in league history, and put the Warriors, who have never made it past the elimination round in the five-year history of the Cesafi, in good position to a Final Four berth this season.
