Downpour forces events to be moved
By Mike T. Limpag

In the first day, Mother Nature was helpful. The second day, she was furious.

Heavy rains forced organizers of the 10th Milo Olympics to cancel the volleyball and lawn tennis matches while the rest of the games pushed through with only minor hitches.

“So far, the first day is okay, except for the rains which forced the cancellation of the volleyball and lawn tennis games,” Milo organizer Ricky Ballesteros said.

Transfer

Volleyball was to be played at the Cebu City Sports Center court and tennis at the Central Command courts.

“Volleyball will be transferred to the Barrio Luz Gym and tennis at the covered courts of Alta Vista Golf and Country Club,” said Ballesteros, who anticipates no further delays due to rain.

Meanwhile, Bright Academy coach Eleazer Toledo complained about the lack of identification cards (IDs) and schedule in their event.

“We were not given the schedule even in the solidarity meeting. Today we waited since 7 a.m. only to play in the afternoon,” Toledo said.

Ballesteros, for his part, said the schedules had been posted earlier, although he admitted the IDs delivered were insufficient.

“We ran out of IDs and used last year’s IDs. The rest of the undelivered IDs didn’t arrive,” said Ballesteros.
