Ceres deploys more buses in north

A Bacolod-based bus operator will soon deploy more buses in northern Cebu after it acquired 12 buses from RVK bus liner in Cebu last June.

Clemente Villarin, Cebu branch manager of Ceres Liner, said they have a pending franchise application with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board 7 for 50 more buses to be deployed in the northern part of Cebu.

“If there would be more opportunities for us to buy and deploy more buses to offer more trips in the north, then we would consider doing it,” he told Sun.Star Cebu in a phone interview yesterday.

He said each of the 12 buses ply the Cebu-Daan-bantayan and Cebu-Hag-naya routes three times daily.

Ceres now has a total of 122 buses in Cebu including those plying southern Cebu.

Biggest

Vallacar Transit Inc., the bus company that runs Ceres Liner, is said to be the biggest bus company in the country with 1,700 units plying Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

But with the recent oil crisis, Villarin said bus operators should run buses with maximum efficiency.

“The oil crisis is a prime concern for all of us. But we can turn these crises to opportunities. We should look for ways and means to save and cut expenses without compromising the quality of service,” he said.

He noted that smaller bus companies are already forced to sell their units because bus operations is a tough business when the economy is bad. (ALC)
