Cesafi decides today

The Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) commissioner’s office is expected to come up with a verdict today regarding the additional sanctions to the individuals involved in the melee between the collegiate basketball squads of the University of San Carlos (USC) and the University of Cebu (UC).

“We will try to come up with the best decision possible for everyone involved,” Cesafi commissioner Danny Duran told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday. “It’s a delicate situation, so we have to examine it from every angle.”

Duran has been tasked to investigate the incident and come up with recommendations, which will be forwarded to the Cesafi board. Duran, along with judge Reynoso Belarmino and lawyer Joseph Baduel, will have a closed-door meeting today with the game’s referees.

Suspensions

UC and USC have already been meted a one-game suspension each after all players of both teams left their benches during the ugly incident, which took place at the USC Gym last Sunday. With the sanction, the UC Webmasters forfeited their home game against the University of the San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars last Tuesday, while the USC Warriors will serve their suspension tomorrow, also against USJ-R.

USC, however, is expected to file an appeal with the Cesafi board after the win was awarded to UC, which was ahead, 89-83, when the game was stopped because of the commotion. (GCM)
