Aside from holding eight provincial games for the 2005-06 Fiesta Conference, the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) will also hold an out-of-the-country game in December.

Lanao del Norte, Cagayan de Oro, Capiz, Tacloban, Zamboanga, Urdaneta and Puerto Princesa are among the provinces where the league will bring its act, while Taipei becomes the second foreign country to get a taste of the PBA brand of basketball.

“The PBA has always looked forward to bringing the league closer to the fans and that’s what we’ll exactly do by holding a number of provincial games on our 31st season, during which we will also be playing in Taipei to entertain our mostly OFW kababayans there,” said commissioner Noli Eala.

Kick-off game

Defending Fiesta Cup champion San Miguel and Red Bull will have the distinction of playing in Taipei on Dec. 14, the second official out-of-the-country PBA game since Talk ’N Text and Shell played before an overflow crowd in Jakarta, Indonesia during the Fiesta Cup last March.

Meanwhile, the match pitting Sta. Lucia against Coca-Cola on Oct. 15 kicks off the league’s series of out-of-town games, with Tubod, Lanao del Norte hosting the PBA for the very first time.

“We know that the people of Lanao have long been waiting for the PBA to play in their beautiful place so this is truly a dream come true for them. I would like to tell the people of Lanao that the PBA is also excited and happy that we would finally get to play there,” Eala said.

Twin games

A week later (Oct. 22), will Cagayan de Oro take its turn as Ginebra battles Purefoods. Then it’s on to Roxas City, Capiz on Oct. 29 when San Miguel goes up against Air 21. Red Bull and Coke will meet in Tacloban on Nov. 5 and Talk ’N Text will clash with Sta. Lucia in Zamboanga on Nov. 12.

On Nov. 19, the league will go up north to Urdaneta, Pangasinan with its lone provincial twinbill featuring Alaska against Purefoods and Ginebra versus Coke.

After a three-week period to give way to the 23rd Southeast Asian Games and the Taipei trip, the league will resume its out-of-town schedule with a game between Ginebra and Air 21 on Dec. 10, with Davao City most likely playing host.

Puerto Princesa City in Palawan will be the final stop on Dec. 17 as Talk ‘N Text will tangle with Alaska. (PBA media bureau)
