Batawang in Lapu tonight
World Boxing Association (WBA) Pan-African light flyweight champion Bert Batawang will headline Sammy G. Gello-ani’s “Powerpunch” tonight at the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex.
In a tune-up before he tries his luck in the US, Batawang will trade punches with former RP junior flyweight champion Eugene Gonzales in a 10-round, non-title bout.
Batawang holds a 35-11-3 win-loss-draw record packed with 29 knockout victories, while Gonzales is 27-15-7 with eight KO wins.
Aside from the bragging rights, Gonzales is also looking to gain from the lofty world ratings of Batawang, who is rated No.5 in WBA.
Hot babes
Adding spice to the card are Viva Hot Babes Briana Blanca and Katrina Gonzales, who will act as round girls.
Gonzales’ punching power cannot be disregarded as he recently knocked out top contender Roselito Campaña in just the first round last July 17 at the Elorde Sports Complex in Parañaque.
The pride of the famous L&M stable of Manila, Gonzales is no stranger to Cebu as he fought and lost against Jovan Presbitero and Wyndel Janiola at the Cebu Coliseum, but avenged his losses with a victory over Jojo Bardon.
Spicing up the main event are three upcoming and talented stalwarts from the AEV stable facing formidable opponents in 10-round fights: RP No.3 light flyweight Along Denoy takes on the tough Niño Suelo of Cotabato; crowd-pleaser Robert Allanic trades blows with John Rey Verano of Bukidnon; and the promising Isidro Balabat meets RP No.5 flyweight Jun Eraham of Manila.
