Int’l champ, chesser lead Milo awardees

An international campaigner and a younger brother of last year’s awardee lead this year’s 10th Milo Olympics Most Outstanding Athletes.

The 24 awardees will receive their certificates and prizes during the awarding ceremonies on Sept. 21 at the Grand Convention Center Cebu.

This year’s awardees include international campaigner Sally Mae Siso, who was early this year named Athlete of the Year by the Sportswriters Association of Cebu. The University of San Carlos netter competed in three tournaments in Malaysia last year, winning two Singles and a Doubles title.

Chess

Meanwhile, Felix Shaun Balbona kept the chess MOA plum in the family after receiving the award for the Colegio Inmaculada Concepcion. Last year, his sister Jessa got the title after leading the all-Balbona CIC team to the championship in the Elementary division.

The other awardees this year are Arielle C. Famador of Talamban Elementary School and Kenn Werner Villaruel of University of Cebu for athletics; Jinnelyn O. Li of Bethany Christian School and Clint Angelo Dexter Armamento of University of San Jose-Recoletos for badminton; and Nathan Matthew P. Sarigumba of Sacred Heart School-Jesuit for chess.

Football

Don Bosco College’s Rikko Sedric S. De Guzman got the MOA for football along with Garry S. Garciano of Abellana National School; Winmar B. Agdon of Gun-ob Elementary School and Renatina Gracia C. Lipasasan of the University of Southern Philippines took the awards for gymnastics.

The rest of the awardees are John Francis Gil B. Largo of the University of the Visayas for tennis; Elaine V. Buaya of USJ-R and Dexter R. Dungog of Cebu Institute of Technology for scrabble; Karl Bermudez of Pardo Elementary School for sipa.

Joselito S. Renta of Don Carlos A. Gothong Memorial National High School (sepak takraw); Loren Dale B. Echavez of Sotero Cabahug Forum for Literacy and Allan Paul C. Bayona Dumaguete City High School (swimming); Elonna Dane R. Tormis of Mabolo ES and Marry Angelie B. Motel of UC (table tennis); Elizabeth Gapas of SHS-J and Charlie Magne A. Cordova of UV-Mandaue (swimming); and Jinky T. Garidos and Erika Camille E. Verano of USPF (volleyball).
