Lagtang defeats Dumlog

Amport Tabar scored eight of his 12 points in the crucial stretch to bail out Lagtang over Dumlog, 70-66, Thursday in the Talisay City Mayor’s Cup 2005 Basketball Tournament Senior division.

In the SK category, Mohon players beat Poblacion, 83-79, and San Isidro beat Lawaan I, 59-51.

Lagtang started hot with Tabar scoring four points to lead a 17-12 assault in the first quarter.

John Lester Sunga joined the scoring spree as he scattered seven of his 10 points in the second to pull Lagtang ahead, 39-27, at the bend.

Scoring binge

Dumlog started to come back in the third behind Tommy Abasolo, who scored eight in a 21-16 run that saw Lagtang’s lead cut down to 55-48.

With the defense of Lagtang concentrated on Abasolo, Nestor Bardilas Jr. led the assault in the final frame as Dumlog challenged every shot of the opponents to draw closer.

As Dumlog took the momentum, Tabar and Luis Alabe came to Lagtang’s rescue, drilling important baskets to stave off the charging Dumlog.

Meanwhile, Tohper Cacasarez scored 20 points, Jovan Tabay added 19, Eliezar del Mar contributed 17 and Rey Milla and Ronnie Cargo finished with 13 and 11 points for Mohon, rendering the 30-point production of Glen Dejan of Poblacion meaningless.

The San Isidro five had a balanced attack with Harvey Dadula scoring 12 points for the victory. Ronnie Cabanero scored 15 for the losing Lawaan I cagers.
