The University of the Visayas Baby Lancers made sure the University of San Jose-Recoletos Baby Jaguars stayed winless in the 2005 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) season.

Edelito Cabahug and Phil Mercader scored 15 points apiece as UV pulled off a 76-46 demolition job over the sputtering USJ-R at the Campostela Sports Complex Thursday night, dealing USJ-R its 10th straight loss this season.

Later, the UV Green Lancers racked up its seventh straight win after trouncing the USJ-R Jaguars 80-68 in the main match of the out-of-town doubleheader.

No coach

The Baby Lancers, who played minus coach Delfin Pepito, rode on its fiery start en route to dismantling the Baby Jaguars.
The Baby Lancers went on a torrid shooting spree while limiting the Baby Jaguars to six first-quarter points en route to erecting a 20-point first-quarter lead.

The defending champions again dominated the Baby Jaguars in the second quarter and entered the third period ahead by 28, 41-13, before blowing the game wide open in the third period.

The Green Lancers, on the other hand, started out slow in the first three periods before claiming the match with a big fourth-quarter outburst by reliables Mark Ababon, Ariel Mepaña, Jaysar Esperat and Jayford Rodriguez, who all finished in double figures for UV balanced assault.

Trailing champs

The four-peat champs, who have never lost in more than 40 games dating back to 2001, came out flat and trailed the Jaguars, 31-35, after the first half. By the third period, however, UV came out sharper but was still on the chase going into the fourth quarter, 55-57.

Luke Justiniani led the Jaguars by posting 14 points.
