Ang saves the day for Cebuanos in Iligan shootfest

Shooter Dino Ang was the only thing that stood between Cebu and an ugly top spot shutout in the recently concluded Mayor Lawrence Cruz Cup Practical Shooting Match in Tipanoy, Iligan City.

Ang, shooting for the Casey Gun Club in Lapu-Lapu City, topped 60 other practical shooters in the Production division when all other Cebu-based contenders fizzled out, though well within the top 10 ring.

The 16-stage Philippine Practical Shooting Association (PPSA)-sanctioned Level 3 match drew to a close last Saturday.

Manoy rules

A total of 230 competitors from the various gun clubs all over the country took part in the action jointly organized by the Iligan Practical Shooters Inc. and the San Agustin Practical Shooting Association.

Actor Eddie “Manoy” Garcia competed in the match and was ranked the top “Super Senior” shooter in the Open category.

Casey Gun Club teammates Chito Hernandez and Jeffrey Alce landed third and fourth in the Open despite having finished strongly in earlier matches; the 1st Reynaldo Parojinog Cup in Ozamiz City and 5th Regional Director’s Cup that was also in Iligan City.

Ric Bono, also of Casey Gun Club, landed sixth in the Modified division, losing to Luis Panagiton.

Standard

Benson Yu and Philippine Team member Lito Ladroma, for their part, finished third and fifth in the Standard division, respectively, bowing to P/Supt. Benjie Belarmino, also a member of the Philippine Team.

In the revolver match, Jimmy Yu, bowed to a woman. He lost to PO3 Sara Jean Recla of the PNP Regional Office 7.

But the match did not produce a dearth of trophies and special awards.

Ramon Vidal and Ka-magong Gun Club’s Joe Montalvan took the top spots in the Range Officer’s category of the Modified and Open divisions, respectively.

PO2 Conrado Alega of the Cebu City Police Office Swat Team was also ranked the top law enforcement shooter in the Open. (KNR)
