SunCell launches new promo for prepaid clients

GokongweiI-controlled Sun Cellular (SunCell) has cooked up another “value-for-money” service to help cellular phone subscribers cut on their telecommunication expenses amid the crisis.

According to a statement, SunCell is now offering its prepaid subscribers the DayLite Call and Text Unlimited service that allows its subscribers to enjoy 12 days of unlimited Sun-to-Sun calls and texts from 12 midnight to 6 p.m. for only P100.

Special rate

“This means that at P100, you (subscribers) get over 25 percent more unlimited hours at only 46 centavos per hour. In the meantime, enjoy a special low Sun-to-Sun rate of P1 per minute for a call made from 6:01 p.m. to 11:59 p.m.,” the company’s statement said.

In an interview, National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) 7 Director Danilo Sy said telecommunication companies are allowed by law to engage in a promotional activity for 30 days only. The promotion should also be registered first with Department of Trade and Industry for the activity to be valid.

“As long as they have the necessary permits, they can go on with their promotions within the bounds of the law. As for NTC, we allow promotions, especially those that give value-for-money to telecommunication subscribers,” he told Sun.Star Cebu.

But the issue on the quality of the service of a telecommunication company is a different matter.

Sy said the NTC central office does a continuing monitoring of the services of telecommunication companies. If it sees a problem, such as clogged up systems, the office immediately calls the attention of the company concerned.

Complaint

Earlier, mobile phone operators Globe Telecom and Smart Communications Inc. filed a complaint before the NTC on SunCell’s 24/7 plan, which involves giving subscribers unlimited calls and text messaging with SunCell’s network for a flat fee, saying this promotion has led to SunCell’s poor service to its subscribers.

Smart public affairs head Ramon Isberto had said Smart had asked NTC to either stop SunCell’s 24/7 promotion or require the company to invest so it can provide quality service to its subscribers. (JBN)
