OPENING OF IBP LAW WEEK. The IBP Cebu City and Cebu Chapters opened Law Week last Sept. 18 with a holy mass at the IBP Social Hall. Fr. Ladie Tangente celebrated the mass.

This was followed by a native buffet breakfast then a parade with the participation of law students from the different law schools from the IBP Office to the Fuente Osmeña Circle and back.

The search for Best Muse and Escort and the Inter-Law School Cheer Dance Competition commenced shortly after the parade. The activity was spearheaded by the Young Lawyers Association of Cebu (Ylac).

Judges for the contests were Vice-Mayor Michael Rama, RTC Danao Judge Hon. Sylva Paderanga, and Atty. Galicano Arriesgado Jr.

Adjudged Best Muse was a law student from Southwestern University; Best Escort, a fourth year law student from the University of Cebu. The champion for the Inter-Law School Cheer Dance Competition was the University of San Carlos College of Law.

Yesterday, the Cebu Lady Lawyers Association (Cella, Inc.) sponsored a film showing entitled Bunso, a film documentary by Ditsy Carolino.

First Lady Margot Osmeña presented a PowerPoint presentation to show the plight of children in Cebu and the Cebu City government’s projects to alleviate their condition.

Incidentally, Cella had its induction of new members and honoring of members last Aug. 27 at the Teatro Casino of the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino (WCCHC) in Lahug. Sponsors of the event were Casino Filipino Cebu and Globe Telecom.

Schedule of activities for the rest of the week:

Sept. 20 – Lawyers Fun Debate, sponsored by the Federaccion Internacional de Abogadas (Fida-Cebu) to be held at the IBP
Social Hall

Sept. 21 – Inter-Law Schools Competition. The six law schools in Cebu city will battle it out in two categories: impromptu speech contest and the most awaited Annual Quiz Bowl. Venue will be at the Ayala Activity Center, 2 to 6 p.m.

Sept. 23 – The newly renovated IBP Building will be inaugurated at 10 a.m. This major renovation of the IBP Building was through a funding assistance from Reps. Raul V. del Mar and Antonio V. Cuenco.

Aside from the general repainting of the entire building, there was also an installation of a 2,000-liter water tank, a new giant logo, new environment-friendly parking lot and the renovation of the second floor, which holds the IBP Social Hall and the ground floor, including the canteen.

Del Mar and Cuenco will grace the occasion together with Gov. Gwen Garcia and Executive Judge of the Regional Trial Court of Cebu City, Simeon Dumdum.

A Bench and Bar Dialogue will be held at 3 p.m. followed by a Fellowship Night which highlights include the Videoke Challenge/Search for IBP Singing Idol.

All lawyers and law students are encouraged to participate in the weeklong activities.
