IBM product saves power, cuts cost
Amid calls for energy conservation, IBM is promoting its Bladecenter solutions that are not only cheaper than other brands but also consumes less power.
Considered the densest server in the market – which means it has fewer racks – the IBM Bladecenter simplifies information technology (IT) management while helping reduce costs by consolidating servers, storage and networking.
The product was launched in the Philippine market three years ago.
“Aside from being dense, the BladeCenter also has a high availability solution, meaning, it has many components that are redundant to each other, like the fans, power supply, switches, management supply and among many others,” said Joseph Garcia, IBM field technical support specialist.
IBM conducted a technology update seminar to IT professionals and representatives from various companies on the use of IBM BladeCenter solutions yesterday at Marriott Hotel in Cebu City.
Garcia said the advantage in buying IBM Blade-center is that it allows one to use Intel’s newest processors without replacing the chassis.
Other vendors, he said, need to sell a new chassis for every new processor.
“That means, with IBM, you have investment protection because BladeCenter has chassis that can support the newest processors and allows for future expansions,” he told Sun.Star Cebu.
Telecommunications companies and banks are mostly the ones that use IBM Bladecenter.
Charis Divinagracia, IBM southern Philippines territory sales manager, said many Mactan Economic Zone locators use Bladecenter.
Christine Llanto, marketing manager of IBM systems and technology group, said the product is also space-saving. (ALC)
