Retirees, gerontology conventions slated

The Civil Service Commission (CSC) 7, in coordination with the Central Visayas Association for Volunteer Efforts, Inc. (CVAVE), will hold a Retirees Conference on Sept. 26 at the Cebu Business Hotel on Colon st. while the Golden Center of Cebu Inc. (GCCI) will have its first annual convention on Gerontology and Geriatrics on Oct. 14-15 at the Sacred Heart Center.

Theme of the retirees event is “Uniting Senior Citizens and Volunteers for National Development.”

Atty. David Cabanag, CSC 7 director, and CVAVE president Martiniana D. Mercado, retired DSWD director, encourage agencies, all retirees from national and local government units, government-owned and controlled corporations and attached agencies of government departments to attend the conference.

Topics include expanded benefits for senior citizens under RA 9257, updates on House Bill No. 3439 authored by Rep. Raul Del Mar, updates on GSIS and PhilHealth policies and services, tie-up with CSS on “Mamamayan Muna, Bago Mamaya Na,” and alternative medicines.

Health and fitness activities will also be introduced. Registration fee is P300 payable to CSC will be collected upon registration, which is from 8-9 a.m.

Gerontology convention

Meanwhile, theme for the geriatrics affair is “The Joy of Approaching the Golden Years with Grace and Dignity.”

Topics include hypertension in older persons, sexuality in older persons, demographic profile of the aging population, the process of aging, the psychology of aging, elderly abuse, nutrition for older persons, critical nutrition among elderly, Alzheimer’s disease, hearing loss in the elderly, sexuality in older persons, among others.
