Sun.Star lensman tops sports photo contest
Sun.star Cebu chief photographer Alex P. Badayos has the heavens to thank for, literally.
The 43-year-old chief photographer topped the 10th Milo Little Olympics photo contest recently with a photo entry he would have missed had the rains not stopped him from covering football – his sport of choice.
“I was on my way to the football venue when it rained. I remember being saddened by the sudden downpour because I couldn’t cover my favorite event,” Badayos said.
Stuck at the Cebu City Sports Center, Badayos did what any veteran photographer would do – take photos.
One of his winning entries was a shot of rain-drenched runners’ reflection on the rubble oval. The photo won third.
Badayos’ winning entry reflected the intense concentration of Daniel Jay Tormis serving in table tennis.
In all, Badayos took the first, third, fourth and seventh spots, while Lito Tecson of Cebu Daily News copped the second prize.
Iste Sesante of The Freeman, the only lady participant, was fifth, while colleague Paul Rosaroso was sixth. Junjie Mendoza also of CDN was eighth.
Last year, Badayos and fellow Sun.Star photographer Amper Campaña swept all eight spots. (ML)
