Suico, Mexican foe do workout together

Usually, fighters avoid being seen by their opponents in training to gain more leverage come fight night.

But Cebuano Golden Boy Randy Suico and Mexican Javier Jauregui did some workout together at their hotel gym in Los Angeles, California. Suico and Jauregui are the main protagonists of a Golden Boy Promotion on Saturday at the USC Lyon Center in Los Angeles, a 10-round fight expected to be a tough test for both.

Suico holds a 23-1 win-loss record with 20 knockout wins, while Jauregui packs a 49-12-2 slate with 34 KOs.

On the same date at exactly the same time, another Filipino will fight about 100 miles away as Diosdado “Prince” Gabi of Davao City will make his US debut at the Stockton Civic Auditorium in a James Grunsky Promotions in Stockton, California.

The 26-year-old Gabi, holding a 25-2-1 record with 18 knockouts, will fight the dangerous Mexican Jose Alfredo Tirado, who sports a 22-2-3 record with 17 KOs.

Gabi is under the close watch of Freddie Roach and has sparred approximately 75 rounds.

Brian Viloria, the new WBC junior flyweight champion, and Brazilian flyweight Jose Albuquerque were among his sparring partners along with IBF bantamweight champion Israel Vazquez.

Suico and Jauregui met accidentally as the former was about to leave the Oscar de la Hoya Youth Center and Jauregui, a former IBF lightweight champion, entered.

At the hotel athletic club, both fighters met again yesterday morning. Since it was foggy and cold outside, both fighters decided to sweat it out at the hotel gym where they jogged side-by-side on the running machines. They did not talk. (RCM)
