Robbers grab P200T from moneychanger

Even with the arrest of leaders of notorious robbery gangs in Cebu, big-time robberies still occur, with a mini-mart and money-changer in Barangay Mabolo as the latest victim yesterday.

The robbers were identified as members of Rey Torres’ robbery gang.

Three men on a red TMX Honda motorcycle carted away P200,000 cash from businesswoman Morita Colina, 45, at 12 noon.

Her driver and messenger Jessie Hernane, 27, was carrying the black plastic bag that contained the cash.

The mini-mart also serves as money changing outlet.

Hernane was about to deliver the money to a client in Tabok, Mandaue City. As he emerged from the entrance door of Aibee Mini Mart and Money Changer on Corner Juan Luna Ave. and S. Cabahug St. two men armed with .45 pistols blocked him and took the money.

Police said that after the taking the money, the two hurriedly walked to a companion waiting with a motorcycle. The robbers fled towards Sitio Sindulan, an interior part of Mabolo.

Theft and Robbery Section investigator SPO3 Isagani Pugoy said the robbers had waited for Hernane to come out.

Two witnesses, a female and male house helpers of Colina, said one of the robbers wearing a cap bought a cell phone load at the store before the robbery. When the man saw Hernane go out clutching the plastic bag, he and the other robber poked a gun at him and pulled the robbery.

The incidents proved once again that robberies in Cebu City haven’t ended with the arrest and death of some leaders of robbery groups.

Last Sept. 2, Cebu’s most wanted fugitive and robbery gang leader Reil Bautista was caught after a shootout with members of a PNP special unit in Makati City’s business district.

His arrest came more than a month after his former accomplice Danny Limotan was caught by Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Bureau operatives in Valencia, Bukidnon, and more than two months since Rey Torres was caught in Zamboanga del Sur and Joel “Tongol” Nodalo was shot dead in Buenavista, Bohol.

Although yesterday’s robbery took less than five minutes, Hernane had taken a good look at the robbers’ faces and identified them through the police rogues’ gallery.

Mabolo police investigator SPO3 Riolito Jacalan said two of the three robbers are identified as Doroteo Imperial, of Misamis Oriental, and Roldan Rodriguez, 35, of Bulacao, Pardo. Both are reportedly members of Torres’ robbery gang. (AIV)
