Van sales up amid crisis

ANOTHER Cebu car dealer said its sales are up despite the economic crisis.

“Surprisingly, our sales went up in the past two months,” Edward Onglatco, president of Hyundai-Cebu Inc., said.

Earlier, Jose Manuel Cuenco, assistant general manager of Toyota Cebu City Inc., also said that the financial crisis did not stop people from buying cars because vehicles are now considered a necessity.

Hyundai’s Onglatco said they sell at least 15 to 20 cars a month.

Features

After introducing its 2005 Starex GRX in the Cebu market early this year, Starex’s 2006 model is also now out to hit the road, Onglatco said.

The 2006 Starex GRX has the same basic features with the 2005 model.

However, it has additional features, like the front and rear disc brake with anti-lock brake system, folding arm rests on the second and third row seats and a grill facelift.

It also has a 2.5-liter common rail direct injection with intercooler turbo diesel engine that has a maximum power of 145ps and has an independent double wishbone with Torsion bar spring front suspension and five-link type coil spring rear suspension, he said.

Onglatco added that it is also equipped with an accessory power outlet, driver’s side airbag, folding trays, automatic headlights, backup warning system and power steering, among many others.

Its automatic variant is priced at P1.27 million while the manual variant is at P1.19 million. (ALC)
