Young and Beautiful By Maria Carla Bren Vianney Yap
YOUNG. Vibrant. Beautiful. Teeners, they still may be. But wait till you see them strut their stuff onstage. With looks built for models and their considerable wit, they’ve got what it takes to be real beauty title holders.
A jampacked Ayala Entertainment Center and a screaming horde of students welcomed the Search for Mr. and Ms. High School 2005, where 16 of the most handsome and most beautiful high school students in Cebu vied for the coveted title (and the prize, too).
A brainchild of Home Radio’s station manager Manny Galecia, that kicked off in action last year, the pageant aims to foster the spirit of camaraderie among the schools in Cebu. This year, after the arduous task of screening the best of the best, the contenders came from Cebu Institute of Technology, Abellana National High School, Cebu Eastern College, University of the Visayas – Mandaue, University of the Visayas – Pardo, Pardo National High School, and Salazar Institute of Technology.
In bouts of sashaying and flaunting their manly and magnetic charms, the contenders proved that there could only be one Mr. and one Ms. High School 2005. In the end, the overwhelming majority of the Technologians in the crowd could attest to the victory of their schoolmate, as 17-year-old Ariel Barlisan romped away with the Mr. High School 2005 title after he aced his way through the Q & A portion. He later confided, “The support of the Technologians is really oh-amazing!”
The 15-year-old nurse-wannabe from Abellana National High School didn’t lag far behind. With her captivating smile and ethereal grace, Lovella Rose Emnace certainly deserved the crown.
It wasn’t surprising for the crowd, too. From the beginning, both consistently reaped the admiration of the jurors, earning them the most number of awards.
In the end, the champs never forgot the people who stood by their side all throughout the challenges in their lives.
They are the people who made them calm despite all the hassles and all the frazzled nerves. Lovella Rose shared, “This is my first time to win…[I dedicate this award] of course to God, my family, my friends and my classmates.”
Ariel said, “I was a bit nervous but not that nervous [because] I know that the support of my friends, classmates and my parents are there.”
