8 traders lose P700T in items to one retailer

EIGHT establishments in Cebu City lost over P700,000 in assorted merchandise and equipment, in what police investigators believe was the handiwork of a large-scale swindling syndicate.

The alleged swindling incidents occurred from Sept. 8 to Sept. 17.

The victims reported the incidents last Sept. 22 and 23 to the Parian Police Station.

All the victims pointed to the owner of Twin Eagle Commercial, identified as a certain Robert Uy, as the alleged perpetrator.

Twin Eagle Commercial’s business address is listed as 104 G.E. Building, T. Padilla St., Cebu City.

But when they checked, operatives from the Parian Police Station and the Vice Control Section found that the establishment has already closed.

Uy allegedly has three other cohorts whom police are still trying to identify.

Based on the information relayed by the victims, Uy ordered assorted merchandise and equipment from them and issued post-dated checks from Banco de Oro’s Osmeña Blvd. branch.

However, when the clearing period lapsed, the victims found out that the account has already been closed.

The complaints were raised by Benrie Enterprises on M.C. Briones St., Ermita; Save Master Inc. at Pier 4, North Reclamation Area; Car Buddy Marketing on M. J. Cuenco Ave., Mabolo; William Commercial on Progreso St., Ermita; Mega Joy Trading Enterprises Inc.; Vic Enterprises; Elite Machines Inc. on Gen. Maxilom Ave. and Vicky Marketing and General Merchandise on T. Padilla St.

Enrique Alfeche Jr. of Elite Machines Inc. said Uy transacted with them last Sept. 12 through their agent Jesril Baynosa, ordering three photocopying machines, two fax machines and two calculators.

All the items that were delivered the following day, for a total bill of P140,400.

Alfeche said when they first checked with the bank, they were told Uy’s account was still active.

He added that they deposited the post-dated check on Sept. 20, seven days after it was issued.

But on Sept. 22, the bank called up Alfeche, informing him that the check bounced because Uy’s account was already closed.

The same thing happened to the other victims.

SPO4 Ranulfo Espinosa, the Parian police investigator assigned to the case, said that based on their monitoring, the suspects may have already left Cebu City.

Of the eight establishments victimized, Save Master Inc. lost the biggest amount — P181,636 for 275 ceiling fans and assorted pest killers.

Vic Enterprises lost P152,400 worth of construction materials that Uy ordered last Sept. 8.

William Commercial reported losing P84,000 for 30 drums of chlorine, while Benrie Enterprises lost P83,000 for 20 rolls of tarpauline.

Mega Joy Trading lost P61,800 in assorted appliances; Vicky Marketing lost P51,805 in assorted merchandise; and Car Buddy lost P18,000 for two aircon compressors. (JST)
