SpeakOut: Who’s running Talisay City Hall?
By (Name withheld upon request)

AS A concerned taxpayer and a bonafide Talisaynon, I am gravely bothered by how our beloved city is being run today. Talks coming from ordinary men in the streets say we are being run by three mayors, namely Rep. Eduardo Gullas, Mayor Soc Fernandez and City Administrator Aurora Econg. What a mess!

However, though, the one who actually calls the shots is Atty. Econg. How pitiable and lamentable! I pity the duly elected mayor who functions as a mere administrative assistant and I lament the fact that whatever Econg wants, Econg gets.

During the time of then mayor Gullas, Talisay had only some 300 or so job orders, but now, at the instance of Econg and the Department of Heads to be able to pay heavy political debts and accommodate close relatives and friends, we have more than 700 job orders—casual employees. What a waste of taxpayer’s money! The COA and the ombudsman should look into this highly irregular management style of those concerned. They are supposed to be public servants and such, should work for the best interest of the public, not for their personal benefits.

We were delighted when the papers reported Econg’s resignation. But then, that was only for the consumption of the media “mora og nagpadugang lang og pusta.”

It’s time Rep. Eddie Gullas clip the wings of Econg and allow Mayor Soc Fernandez to function as duly elected mayor.
