Tagbilaran grabs Inter-City overall title
TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol – For the first time in tournament history, Tagbilaran City won the overall title of the 19th Visayas Inter-City Developmental Amateur Boxing Championship Mayor Dan Neri Lim Cup at the Island City Mall here.
All four of the host teams’ finalists won gold medals in their respective divisions to bag the overall championship, leaving powerhouses Team Cebu City and Mandaue City with only one gold medal each.
Jenno Cabugngan won the first gold for Tagbilaran City following his 5-0 pounding of Jimboy Rosales of Talibon, Bohol in the 32-kilogram finals. Joshua Odtohan gave Tagbilaran its second gold after beating Welbeth Loberanis of Mandaue City in a scary 3-2 decision for the 36kg gold.
Jun Marlon Arisga also escaped with an equally thrilling 3-2 win against Dario Luga of Mandaue City for the 45kg gold, while Jameson Bacon secured the last gold for Tagbilaran with his win over Mitzael Taborada of Cebu City.
Bacon was named Best Boxer in the 42-48kg divisions.
Aside from four gold medals, Tagbilaran City also collected three bronze medals courtesy of Francis Lee Cutanda, Noel Adelmita and Emmanuel Lumantad.
The three remaining gold medals went to Cebu City, Mandaue and Bacolod City.
Bacolod’s Remas Orcado beat Ian Teves of Dumaguete City with a masterful 4-1 win in the 34kg division. Jomarie Yuson took the 39kg gold following a 5-0 win over Apolinario Chavez Jr. of Cebu City, while Jestoni Borres secured the 42kg gold for Cebu City after beating Michael Ramos of Maasin City, 5-0.
Yuson took the Best Boxer award in the 32-39kg cluster, while Joel Rosario got the Best Referee honors.
Mandaue City bagged the second place overall with a gold, two silvers and a bronze while Cebu City had its worst finish in 19 editions with one gold, one silver and two bronze medals to finish third. Bacolod placed fourth with a gold and a bronze. Talibon placed fifth with two silvers, Maasin City bagged one silver and four bronze medals, while Dumaguete had one silver and a bronze, and Bohol Province and Cadiz City had one bronze each. (RCM)
