Limpag: Nokia answers Sony Ericsson By Max Limpag Cell talk
YEAR OF THE MUSIC MOBILE. Industry executives said at the start of the year that 2005 would be the year of the music phone. This year saw the launch of the Walkman-branded line of Sony Ericsson phones.
Last week, Nokia announced a new version of the Nokia 6630 3G smartphone. The updated version, the Nokia 6630 Music Edition, will start shipping at the end of this month.
Nokia said in a press statement that the unit “has been designed with enhanced music functionality to make it convenient for you to take your music collection with you while on the move.”
The phone comes with a 256-megabyte memory card that lets users store up to 15 CDs worth of music. The phone’s memory can be increased up to one gigabyte through a compatible memory card. The Nokia 6630 also comes with a PC suite and a USB MMC/SD card reader for the easytransfer of files from the computer to the phone and vice versa.
“The Nokia 6630 Music Edition is a fantastic combination of music, smartphone and 3G. You can carry a good portion of your music collection with you wherever you go and with the Nokia Audio Adapter, you can quickly connect your favorite set of music headphones,” said Nokia director Tuula Rytilä-Uotila.
The company said that the phone can even be plugged into a home stereo system to serve as music player.
The Nokia 6630 Music Edition comes with a new selection of themes and ringtones pre-installed. It also has a built-in 1.3 megapixel camera.
