Akrho, Tau Gamma officials pledge to settle differences

Officials of Alpha Kappa Rho (Akrho) and Tau Gamma Phi yesterday assured Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia and Cebu Provincial Police Office Director Vicente Loot during a meeting that the two warring groups would iron out their differences.

The leaders also accepted the blame for the collapse of the peace covenant they had earlier signed with the Police Regional Office 7. They said they were unable to monitor the actions of their members, who continued to attack and kill each other.

Loot asked them to furnish his office with the structure, profile and list of the two groups’ members so he can come up with mechanics for peace that will be acceptable to both sides.

The meeting, held at the Provincial Capitol, came about after Loot threatened to recommend declaring members of the two groups as criminals after the spate of attacks and killings between them continued.

Capitol Consultant Rory John Sepulveda, who attended the meeting, said leaders of the groups were sincere in their desire to end the conflict. In fact, he said the leaders assured the governor that they would meet with their respective members regularly to explain to them the advantage of having peace.

Akrho, which has the most record of attacks against Tau Gamma, also revealed its plan to register its members with the local government unit so it will be easy for the leaders to check whom among their members are misbehaving.

But Richard Buscaino, Akrho regional head, said he still has to discuss this proposal with chapter presidents. (JCT of Superbalita)
