Generous reward to a gracious host
The 19th Visayas Inter-City Developmental Amateur Boxing Championship in Tagbilaran City proved to be a huge success not just because it was the first time Tagbilaran won the championship, but also for the best hospitality extended to the participants in the tournament’s nine-year history.
Sept. 21-25 became a memorable date to young boxers from all over the Visayas as almost a hundred boxers, coaches and officials were treated to the best hosting of the only developmental amateur boxing competition in the country.
Treat them well
“Since 1996, I have never seen a host that threw its full support to this event. The boxers were given very special treatment and were housed in air-conditioned rooms,” said Cebu boxing patron Antonio Aldeguer, the originator of the tournament.
Tagbilaran City Mayor Dan Neri Lim housed the boxers inside the JJS Seafoods Village were all the rooms are air-conditioned. The were also given more than enough allowances.
“These boxers need to be taken care of well. Just imagine, they are the ones getting bashed and you will let them stay in classrooms or in hot pension houses. Let’s be human enough to treat them very well because these (boxers) are our guests,” said mayor Lim.
“That is why when this tournament was offered to us, we had no second thoughts of showing Boholano hospitality.”
It was the third time Tagbilaran hosted the event but this was the best hosting so far.
Mayor Lim also recognized the efforts of Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines president Nemesio Monton.
The reward for hosting the best Inter-city competition? Four gold medals and a firstever overall championship. (RCM)
