Fundraising walkathon set
The “Lakad Mo, Pangarap Ko 2 Nationwide na ‘to” fund raising walkathon, now on its second year, will take place on Oct. 8.
It will have Cebu and Davao legs aside from Metro Manila. Lopez Group chairman and chief executive Oscar M. Lopez will don his hiking shoes again as Knowledge Channel repeats its highly successful walk for education.
The 75-year-old Lopez, a physical fitness buff, has outwalked and out-hiked his much younger CEOs in many wellness programs organized within the Lopez Group of Companies.
On Oct. 8, Oskie, as he is known to close friends and family, will lead the cause-oriented walkathon event, which seeks to “empower the youth through education.”
In Metro Manila, the five-kilometer walkathon starts at the San Lorenzo Ruiz Plaza at Luneta and ends at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay city where the more than 8,000 walkers, including other government luminaries, will be treated to a live telecast of the popular noontime show Wowowee with Willie Revillame.
In Cebu, the walkathon will start at the Provincial Capitol to Ayala Center Cebu, and in Davao, assembly will be at the Matina ABS-CBN office to the Almendras Gym.
The event aims to enable Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. (KCFI) to provide more public schools with educational television in its finest form – the Knowledge Channel – which is currently being received by over 1,500 public schools in 39 provinces. More than 39,000 schools are on the waiting list to receive the channel.
The public is invited to join the walk at P200 per participant.
Rina Lopez Bautista, lead organizer of the event and president of the Knowledge Channel Foundation, encourages everyone to “Be counted. Each of us should contribute our fair share to building this nation and creating the present we desire.”
