Avon’s Walk for Breast Cancer

Avon, the global beauty company and the largest corporate supporter of the breast cancer cause, ensures that women have the upper hand over breast cancer through awareness and early detection. In partnership with the Philippine Cancer Society, Avon first launched Kiss Goodbye to Breast Cancer (KGBC) in 2002, to create awareness and raise funds for the establishment of the PGH Breast Care Center. The center now stands as a testament to the campaign’s success and more importantly, as a symbol of hope to the thousands of Filipino indigent women who visit it.

This year, Avon continues the fight against breast cancer with a 3K non-competitive Fun Walk event called “Avon Walk Around the World for Breast Cancer.” The event, happening on Oct. 2 in Cebu city, is open to men and women of all ages and fitness levels.

Two other walk events will take place in Davao city (Oct. 16) and Manila (Oct. 23. Total funds raised from all three events amounting to a minimum of P500,000 up to P1 million will be matched by Avon Foundation for the benefit of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, Davao Medical Center and the PGH Breast Care Center.

In addition to the Fun Walk, there will be a sale of special edition KGBC “Celebrate” lipsticks for the entire month of October. For every lipstick sold, P5 will go to the breast care clinic beneficiaries.

Supporting Avon in this initiative are partners Philippine College of Surgeons and the Philippine Cancer Society, Inc., together with media partner GMA 7. It is made possible through the sponsorship of Globe Girlfriends and Jollibee.

Well-known celebrities have also vowed to support the breast cancer cause and participate in the Avon Walk event.

Celebrities

Award-winning star Iza Calzado says, “For me, breast cancer is a personal issue. My stepmother passed away recently because of this disease. Breast cancer is something real. It can happen to any woman. But I want to stress that there is hope.”

Comedienne Rufa Mae Quinto asserts, “Dapat mag-ingat tayo. Huwag bale walain ang breast cancer at ang pagpapa-checkup.”

Model and host Derek Ramsay states, “I support this cause because I come from a family of mostly women. I wouldn’t want any of my loved ones to go through this painful disease.”

Unang Hirit and Emergency host Arnold Clavio says, “I am supporting the cause kasi I want people to be aware of the disease.

May mother ako, may mga sisters ako and may anak din akong babae so I have to participate kasi nakaka-impluwensya ka din so sayang, ito yung opportunity na rin to help the needy.”

Interested participants to the walk may visit the Avon Cebu branch located at 80 Osmeńa blvd. and the Avon Service Center located at National South Road, Tabunok, Talisay City; Babay 1, Poblacion; M.C.
