MANILA – Delegation heads of the 11 member nations finalize today important details for the country’s hosting of the 23rd Southeast Asian Games (Seag) on Nov. 27 to Dec. 5.

Philippine Sports Commission chairman William “Butch” Ramirez, the designated deputy chief of mission of the Philippines, will represent the host team in the absence of First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo, who is currently in self-imposed exile in San Francisco, California.

The delegations from Laos and Timor Leste arrived yesterday, while officials from Indonesia, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar, Brunei and Cambodia will arrive today in time for tomorrow’s plenary session at the Diamond Hotel.

“It’s just more on formality. But it will mark the official final meeting among the delegation heads before the SEA Games start late November,” said Philippine SEA Games Task Force head Harry Angping.

Cebu visit

Angping, the Softball Association of the Philippines president, said the SEA Games chiefs of mission meeting will also allow the different delegation heads to visit several venues to be used in the nine-day competition.

The delegates will proceed to Bacolod City tomorrow and Cebu City on Monday to inspect the condition of the facilities.

Meanwhile, Angping said that seven SEA Games gold medalists have been recommended to be the Philippine delegation flag bearer in the opening on Nov. 27 at the Quirino Grandstand.

The Philippine Olympic Committee will choose one from among boxers Harry Tanamor, Violeto Payla and Michelle Martinez, long-jumper Maristela Torres, and wushu’s Arvin Teng and Rene Catalan.
