Farmer found dead in ditch

A FARMER was found dead in a culvert in Sitio Private, Barangay Mantalongon, Dalaguete, Cebu last Saturday morning.

Rufino Amandoron, 44, had wounds on his forehead and chest. A .357 revolver, with two empty shells inside, was found beside his body.

SPO3 Benjamin Villahermosa said Rufino’s brother Alejandro, believes Rufino committed suicide because he had been talking about taking his life since he arrived last Oct. 2.

He was declared missing last Oct. 3.

Alejandro told police that Rufino lived with his wife and children in Barangay Naga, Toledo City.

He could not say what his brother’s problem was.

Villahermosa said they are still investigating if there was foul play in Rufino’s death.

They would have wanted an autopsy, but Rufino’s family reportedly declined because they preferred to bury it soon.

Villahermosa said the wound on Rufino’s chest did not look like it was caused by a gunshot, which was why they wanted to have his body autopsied.

But even if the family did not want an autopsy, Villahermosa said his colleagues at the police station will pursue the investigation.

Evergisto Amaya, who maintains the chayote farm in Mantalongon, found Rufino in a culvert beside a barangay road at 8 a.m. (MEA)
