Medico-legal officer ‘risks’ losing PNP post
A PNP medico-legal officer stands to be relieved over allegations that he “indiscriminately fired” his gun inside Camp Sotero Cabahug in Gorordo Ave., Cebu City last month.
Chief Insp. Zosimo Duyugan, chief of the Internal Affairs Service (IAS) of the Regional Crime Laboratory found both medico-legal officer Alex Uy and Senior Insp. David Alexander Patriana “at fault in the incident.”
But PNP 7 Crime Laboratory Director Myrna Areola said it is likely Uy who will be ordered to leave the regional office.
Argument
Uy and Patriana were investigated after Uy allegedly fired his .45 pistol and almost hit Patriana’s feet in an argument last Sept. 12 inside the crime laboratory.
Patriana has filed a separate criminal complaint in court for “grave threats and frustrated homicide.”
Apart from Uy’s relief and transfer of assignment outside the region, Areola said the investigating body also recommended an administrative penalty against both personnel.
She declined to disclose the recommended administrative sanction against Uy and Patriana.
“In order to diffuse the tension” between the two, one has to leave the regional office, she said.
Probe result
The result of the investigation was mailed to Camp Crame last Friday and was received by Police Gen. Supt. Ernesto Belen, director of the PNP Crime Laboratory yesterday.
Areola said Belen has the prerogative to either approve or discard the recommendation.
Areola added that during Belen’s visit in Cebu last Sept. 29, Uy requested for his transfer outside Central Visayas.
While waiting for Belen’s approval, Uy will remain detailed at the Regional Intelligence and Investigation Division. (JST)
