Task force to look into Yu slay
Police yesterday organized a task force to solve the murder of businessman Wilson Yu, who was shot dead by still unidentified assailants last week.
Task Force Wilson is expected to produce results in less than a week.
“Lisod kon usa ka semana magsigi lang ug investigation. I asked them to come up with a result as soon as possible...maybe in less than a week,” Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Chief Eduardo Gador said over radio dyLA yesterday.
Gador said a daily press conference will be held to update the public on the investigation on Yu’s murder.
Gador asked Supt. Lani-o Nerez, PRO 7 deputy director for operations, to supervise the task force to ensure better coordination between the member agencies.
With the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) as lead investigator, Task Force Wilson will be composed of teams from the Mandaue City Police office (MCPO), Regional Intelligence and Investigation Division and the National Bureau of Investigation 7.
Nerez said all the information gathered by members of the task force will be sent to CIDG.
However, it doesn’t mean that the MCPO, which initially gathered information about the case, should stop looking into Yu’s death, said Nerez.
Info sharing
MCPO Director Pablo Florante Lamosao said any information gathered by the Casuntingan Police Station, which first responded to the alarm, will be shared with the task force.
Nerez said no leads have been established yet since the focus of the meeting held yesterday was the creation of the task force and the functions of the members. Nerez earlier said no deadline was imposed as the investigation is a continuing process.
Nerez said the task force will meet regularly to determine where the investigation is heading and whether the help of other police units will be needed.
While he understands that Yu’s family is still grieving, Nerez said he is hopeful that the victim’s relatives will eventually cooperate in the investigation.
The Mandaue City Government and the Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry are offering a reward of P100,000 for the suspects’ capture, dead or alive.
Several business and civic groups have called the attack on the 45-year-old businessman a blow to Cebu’s peace and order, and assailed the robberies and murders that “have become daily fare in our community.”
Attack
Yu owned WAM Manufacturing and Development Inc., a surplus shop and franchises of fastfood chains Jollibee and Chowking.
Last Thursday, unidentified men shot Yu about 20 meters from his office in Barangay Cabancalan, Mandaue City.
Yu succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds in a hospital emergency room. One bullet hit Yu’s heart.
Yu was President Arroyo’s political supporter and campaigner in Cebu. The President appointed him as director of a government-owned shipyard in Bataan.
He was also a former president of the Kiwanis Club International. (AAG/with AIV)
