Lucio Tan group gives P50M in sponsorship

MANILA – Jose Cojuangco, the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee chief executive officer, yesterday expressed confidence the P1.2 billion needed for the hosting of the 23rd Southeast Asian Games will be met before Nov. 27.

“It’s getting better everyday. And I’m really confident we can secure the needed budgetary requirements,” said Cojuangco during yesterday’s official signing of the P50 million contract with Lucio Tan Group of Companies at the Century Park Sheraton Hotel.

Domingo Chua, managing director of Himmel Industries, signed for the LTG companies, while Cojuangco did the same for PhilSoc. Also present in the signing were Michael Ngo, marketing budget manager of Asia Brewery and Angel Suntay, director of marketing of the Century Park hotel.

Lower by P50M

The contract, which is lower than the projected P100 million gold package, enabled the Lucio Tan Group to corner three major sponsorships for the biennial meet.

Summit Natural Drinking Water, which will supply bottled water of the expected 10,000 athletes and officials from 11 nations, is now the official mineral water of the meet, while Philippine Air Lines and Air Philippines are the official air carriers of the Games.

Century Park Sheraton is the official hotel of the Games, where the officials and VIPs of the Southeast Asian Games Federation Council will be billeted during the 10-day sports conclave.

“We are very proud to be one of the major partners of Philsoc,” said Chua. “In behalf of our big boss Mr. Lucio Tan, I have to express our gratitude for this important undertakings.”

For more

Cojuangco said he is still asking for more from the LTG in case the need arise.

“I’m thankful we have a friend like Mr. Lucio Tan to count on. And I’m glad of their assistance. This is not yet closed. I will still ask Mr. Tan for more,” said Cojuangco.

Earlier in the day, Cojuangco also forged a P25 million deal with Nestle Philippines Inc., which made Milo the official energy drink of the Games. The signing was attended by Nestle Philippines top officials at the PhilSoc office at the Philippine International Convention Center.

Other sponsors of the Games are Globe, Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co., Microsoft and Philips Eletronics.

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has also given P300 million to the PhilSoc. (FCC)
