PSID gets personal By Zac Faelnar-Camara
Interior spaces deserve a personal touch and that’s why the Philippine School of Interior Design Advance Class of 2005 lets us discover the inner source of that gesture through their culminating exhibit based on six types of design personality.
“PSID Gets Personal”, on-going at the Ayala Greenbelt this October, features 22 booths, each being an interpretation of a certain characteristic: Sensual, Laid-back, Urban, Pure, Bohemian and Wild. Interestingly, visitors are challenged to take a personality test prior to touring the exhibit.
PSID dean of Students, Jie Pambid states, “Every room in the house, every space, reflects facets of the owner’s personality.
From the color scheme to the fabrics used, the furniture choices down to accessories and floral arrangements – they speak about the person’s history, temper, mood, personality and taste.” Many Filipinos are either pure or laid-back. Yet how ever they might be classified, they may certainly be attracted to the complete opposite. I discovered that although my design personality spells pure, I also have a taste for bohemian.
In a nutshell, Pure equates with elemental, clean and intellectually challenged by pure form and color, like Calvin Klein. Bohemians are eclectic, unpretentious mavericks who explore and improvise at a whim, just like Betsey Johnson. Wild personalities, such as Antoni Gaudi, are exotic, theatrical and display a pronounced taste for the extreme. The Sensual types value comfort and indulgence, order and harmony in succulent forms, as Valentino favors.
Being Laid-back equals being down-to-earth, practical and open to sustainable and functional solutions, as seen in the designs of Frank Lloyd Wright. The Urban child, like Le Corbusier, is chic and cosmopolitan with a modern spirit inclined towards sophistication and technology. So, let’s get personal. Which design personality are you?
