Get Cebuanos to watch the games
GILAS, the official mascot of the 23rd Southeast Asian Games, will do a campus tour starting next week to intensify Cebu SEA Games Organizing Committee’s (Cebusoc) drive in promoting Cebu’s hosting of the 11-nation sports meet on Nov. 27 to Dec. 5.
Cebusoc heads and members will accompany Gilas, which is the country’s national bird, the Philippine eagle or agila. Gilas symbolizes strength and pride, and captures the winning spirit of all participating athletes.
“We will be very busy with our campaign drive. We have scheduled campus tours starting this week. So far, we have good response from the students. Many of them signed up as volunteers. We hope we can encourage more,” said Cebusoc chairman Jonathan Guardo.
Guardo said they hope to encourage the students to support and watch all games, which will be a huge factor for the success of the Seag.
“We hope that we can get crowd support in all sports events. Filling up all the venues is one of our biggest challenges right now. That’s why we are asking the support of all Cebuanos and sports enthusiasts to witness this international sports meet,” said Guardo.
