HP launches workstations, sees good market among Cebu firms

Companies and individuals involved in engineering design and graphics animation may be itching to get hold of Hewlett-Packard’s latest workstation.

Hewlett-Packard (HP) Philippines launched yesterday its latest line of workstations that can cover any task, from software development to engineering.

Cherryl Ho, HP Philippines business development manager for workstations, said the Philippine market for computer solution technology is growing.

She told a press briefing at Cebu City Marriott Hotel that there is also a good market for HP workstations and large format printers in Cebu.

“There is a lot of foreign firms here, particularly at the Mactan Economic Zone,” she said.

HP workstations, Ho said, are especially useful for those involved in graphics animation and design engineering.

In its Cebu launching, HP conducted a seminar on its workstations.

HP workstations are classified in two: personal, which is ideal for digital artists, designers and engineers; and UNIX, which works well in engineering and scientific work.

HP Personal workstations support Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP Professional and Red Hot Linux operating systems.

While clones cost less and may be able to do some of the tasks of branded solutions and hardware, Ho said the HP workstations have the advantage of being compatible with most software.

“HP delivers seamless multi-platform integration with complex financial and multimedia software through its partnership with a number of the industry’s top independent software vendors,” HP said in a statement. (LAP)
