Maxxis makes semifinal round
Maxxis Tires began its campaign in the quarterfinal round with a bang as it eliminated Rosco Paints, 86-69, from the 2005-06 season of the Cebu Eastern College Friendship Cup yesterday at the CEC Gym.
The Maxxis quintet dominated the match from start to finish. Wesley Fabian provided heads-up basketball for the team, which erected its biggest lead, 61-42, at the end of the penultimate period.
Fabian finished the game with 21 points, 15 in the final canto. Elmer Baron also doled out a huge offensive game for Maxxis as he chipped in 15 markers, while the tandem of Deepy Ang and Eric Oh added 10 points apiece.
Rosco was headed by Totie Yap, who banged in 20 points and the duo of Dave Chan and Rene Salibay, combined for 21 baskets in a losing cause.
The win earned for Maxxis the first berth in the semifinals, while gaining it some rest as it awaits the three other teams who will make it to the 32-below division semifinal round.

In the game’s last 39 seconds with CEC-PTA ahead by one, 58-57, Co made a crucial steal and made a coast-to-coast drive to give his team its first taste of the lead in the game.
Juan Borromeo, who topscored for the team with 18 markers, capped Buddies’ amazing comeback bid with a triple in the dying seconds.
