Philhealth quintet, Waterfront 5 win, top team standings
Philhealth defeated Kennex Freight, 60-46, while Waterfront overpowered Mitsubishi Airpro, 65-50, to stay on top of the standings in the maiden season of the Capitol Parish Friday Club Invitational Basketball League last Friday.
Kennex center Adrian Catingub was off to a hot start but was contained by the bigger and well-rested Philhealth big men in the second half. Kennex guard Cyrus Lao, one of the team’s scoring threats, contributed only seven points while playing ill. Philhealth top guard Tonio Cenabre scored 19 points.
In the other game, Mitsubishi Airpro guard Randy Gonzales was taken out of the game early due to an injury. Gonzales went down hard on his knees while attempting a lay-up. That was too much of a loss for the team despite the stellar late-quarter surge by center Ruel Pancho.
Philhealth (60) – Cenabre 19, Jayme 13. Nadela 11, Relampagos 7, Pinili 6, Basilan 2, Ramas 2, Polo 0. Kennex (46) – Catingub 17, Tan 8, Lao 7, Suelto 7, Pescalia 2, Fritz 2, Gelasque 2, Vera 1, Madera 0.
Waterfront (65) – Galanto 15, Valdez 11, Sanoy 10, Litang 9, Arnado 7, Regis 7, Cabusa 6. Mitsubishi Airpro (50) – Pancho 14, Gallardo 13, Villar 9, Pacaña 8, Gonzales 4, Alcoseba 2.
