Sayson: Hot mama Mia weakens Homer’s knees By Homer Sayson Second Overtime
CHICAGO -- Among the small but tight knit of female friends I keep, a 5-foot something cherub named Mia Embalzado easily stands out as a favorite.
Mia is more refreshing than a whiff of cold air, she thinks faster than a calculator, and oh, she is hotter than chili peppers.
Young and heartbreakingly beautiful, Mia is a busy body who wishes there were 25 hours in a day. She devours most of her time perfecting her role as DENR’s public relations diva. She teaches at STC on Saturdays and she’s working on her Ph.D at Cebu Doctor’s University.
SPONGE. Despite the crazy hectic schedule, Mia still picks up a copy of Sun.Star Cebu and absorbs everything in it like a sponge. “I never miss your articles, as well as your NBA segment at Y101 with June Rabin,” she confessed.
Mia parses her words as if they were diamonds, making her e-mails a pleasant read and something that I always look forward to. In the most recent letter she sent me, Mia talked about her love, excitement and longing.
Tingling from one toe to the other, my heart raced as I thought about the possibility of our friendship taking an exhilarating, yet adulterous, turn. Suddenly, my 37-year-old knees weakened.
As I nervously waded through the thicket of her loving words, I then realized that Mia’s meanderings on excitement and love and longing were not about me, but of the upcoming NBA season. I also found out that some lucky dude name Raymund Mateo continues to be the cream in Mia’s coffee.
Naturally, I quickly got deflated, feeling more limp than a stale biscuit.
“How’s Jason Williams doing?” she asked. “I used to watch the Kings because of him. I used to look out for No.55. He’s with Shaq and the Heat now, right?”
Yes dear, the 6-foot-1, 190 pound Williams was traded from Memphis to Miami. Known as “White Chocolate,” Jason is a gifted point guard who has normed 11.7 points and 6.8 assists per in 492 regular season games.
Unfortunately, Jason could also be as reckless as a taxi driver, as uncaring as the howling wind. He likes to pop ill-advised treys, he isn’t always smart in his decision-making, and his 2.53 turnovers per game is a tad high.
But at 30, and surrounded by a group of veterans in a winning atmosphere, the Heat are hoping for Jason to finally fully mature as a playmaker and lead Shaq and company to the promised land.
Still, Mia isn’t impressed. “I still have to analyze and discern which team I’ll support.”
Well, don’t waste your brain power, cutie pie. Root for San Antonio. They play unselfish ball, possess no egos and have enviable chemistry. In short, the Spurs are a lot like you, Mia. So easy to like.
MORE EMAILS. Reacting to my Oct. 26 column about baseball, Robert Jim Calungsod (rjcalungsod@yahoo.com) said: I notice the bold steps you are taking toward well-roundedness, if there’s such a word. Now, Cebu will be proud to have the first ‘true’ sportswriter in the country.”
Thanks, Jun. I can’t say that I’m a true sportswriter. But I try hard to be a versatile columnist.
From Salvador Jakosalem (sjakosalem@lear.com): “I find you good enough to be compared to Quinito Henson. I’ve heard you once in dyAB saying you’ll read Henson’s column even if it’s written on tissue paper. Quinito is good, but you’re already there.”
Although he is my idol, I don’t want to be the next Quinito Henson. I’m happy where I’m at, just having fun as I carve my own path.
P.S. To June Rabin, my regular Friday date. Thanks for your e-mail on Carmen Electra. Tell Sir Charles that Carmen just erased his name from her party list invitees. Finally, to Susana Arrofo, an old college pal: Thanks for your lovely e-mail. Keep in touch.
