Vietnam, Laos still to submit line-ups

Vietnam and Laos are the only countries that have yet to submit their official entries, while 14 national sports associations (NSA) from the Philippines still have to forward their final line-ups for the 23rd Southeast Asian Games (Seag).

The deadline for the submission of the names of the delegates lapsed last Oct. 31, but the support management group of the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (Philsoc) decided to extend the deadline one more week.

“We learned that Vietnam was hit by a strong typhoon over the weekend, while Laos has informed us that it is still awaiting the results of the final selection of some of its sports associations,” said support committee chief Nestor Ilagan.

Scrutiny

The technical official said he had already informed the 14 NSAs to submit their complete line-up to speed up the recording and accrediting of the athletes and officials.

“You see, the line-up, especially in multi-event sports, has to be carefully checked because there are athletes who will compete in three or more events. We have to determine that before we send the names to the accreditation committee for the issuance of cards,” said Ilagan.

Sports associations that remain unaccounted with less than 30 days left before the Seag opens are athletics, basketball, boxing, canoeing, equestrian, pencak silat, golf, gymnastics, lawn bowls, kayak, petanque, rowing, sepak takraw, softball and volleyball.

Two of the 14 events, pencak silat and sepak takraw, will be held in Cebu. The RP pool of both events are already in Cebu training for the Seag, while trying to determine their final line-ups.
