MCIAA increases terminal fee

Starting January 2006, airport users will have to pay P200 as domestic airline passenger terminal fee for every departure.

The Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA) board has approved the increase, which airport general manager
Adelberto Yap described as long overdue.

The international airline passenger terminal fee, however, stays at P550 per person.

The new domestic rate is the same as that collected from passengers at the Manila International Airport, which began collecting the new rate in September.

Yap said the increase in domestic terminal fees will be used as additional funds to buy safety and security equipment to fight terrorism.

The MCIAA earlier increased its budget from P550 million this year to P600 million in 2006.

The amount, Yap said, will be sourced from rentals of properties, concession privilege, aeronautic fees, utility fees, passenger service charges, terminal fees and other fees.

“We have a big income at Mactan airport, but all these revenues will be used to improve services and security equipment,” Yap said.

The increase in terminal fee came as airline fares increased, as a result of the implementation of the reformed value-added tax (RVAT).

Effective Nov. 1, Philippine Airlines raised its fares from the promo price of P2,733 to P3,007 for the Cebu-Manila flight because of the 10 percent RVAT, said spokesman Simoun Canton Jr.

Once the promo ends, the regular airfare rate of P4,217 (including RVAT) will be imposed on the Cebu-Manila flight.

And if the new terminal fee will be implemented, traveling to Manila will cost P4,417 for every passenger.

Cebu Pacific is presently charging P3,617 for the Cebu-Manila flight, including P720 for insurance/fuel charges and P328.90 in RVAT. (EOB)
