Guardo predicts gold sweep
Cebu Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (Cebusoc) chairman Jonathan Guardo predicts a sweep for the Philippines in the dancesport competition of the Seag, which Cebu City will host on Nov. 27.
“It is very possible for our dancesport team to win all golds in the SEA Games given their good performance in a national competition in Manila,” said Guardo.
Team Cebu City-Dancesport scored another grand slam in the Dancesport Council of the Philippines Inc.-National Dancesport Championship in Pasig City last October.
Seag-bound
The team, headed by SEA Games-bound athletes Richard Rey Obong, Jenevieve Camacho, John Erolle Melencio, Dearlie Gerodias, Michael Mendoza and Belinda Adora topped couples from other cities in the tournament, which served as their last competition before the biennial meet.
They will comprise the Philippine Team along with Melvin Dela Cerna and Vangilyn Cenina in the Latin division, while Rico Rosima, Filomena Salvador, Emmanuel Reyes, Maira Rosete, Robert Masanque and Floralyn Lagario will compete in the Standard division.
Guardo said the dance team, comprised mostly of Team Cebu City athletes, will likely be the first athletes to give the country its first gold in the meet.
