Siso labors in win; Lagman logs near shutout
Niño Siso and Jacob Lagman, two of Cebu’s most decorated age-group netters, snatched finals berths at the Adidas National Junior Tennis Tournament yesterday.
Niño Siso bucked a slow start and waged a blazing run in the last two sets en route to registering a thrilling 5-7, 6-2, 10-8 semifinal victory over Manila’s Tim Polero, which earned him a finals berth in the Boys 12-Under division.
Lagman barged into the Boys 10-U finals after defeating Angeles City’s Vince Salas, 6-1, 6-1, in the semifinals yesterday. Lagman, a fourth-grader at the Saint Benedict’s Learning Center, will battle for the plum today against a still to be determined foe.
Canceled
Meanwhile, the finals duel between Cebu’s Sally Mae Siso and Jayvee Custodio for the Girls 12-U title was canceled after a heavy blast of rain scourged the Mandaluyong City Tennis Courts yesterday. The anticipated tussle between Sally Mae, the country’s top player in the age bracket, and Custodio is set to take place today.
The Siso siblings, both sponsored by Nick Pepito and Boning Donio, and Lagman are members of the RP-Milo contingent that will wage battle in the International Open Junior Tennis Tournament in Malaysia this December. (GCM)
