Blooming days are here By Ritchie Landis Doner Quijano
At times when words are difficult to utter, we can say it with flowers.
Beautiful blooms can be an effective means of communication. Thus, the artist Fe Madrid says things with them and is perfectly at home painting blooms for many reasons. She waters and tends her garden early in the morning to start her day.
A plant lover, she doesn’t mind the label of a flower painter. But it isn’t accurate to say she only knows this subject, for there are other engaging paintings she made for her exhibit called Kahingpitan at the SM art center.
But most certainly, the most appealing of her works are the floral series. This could be the stage in her career as an artist we could call the blooming period.
The exhibit is a process of becoming and her first solo show. The title also translates to the realization of being a full-fledged artist, a declaration of her rite of completion, but her launch is never that easy. There’s always the fear of rejection.
She took plenty of time to think things over before she decided to proceed with her march and put up her first solo. First ones are always like a baptism of sorts. Fe’s early exposure to the works of artists residing in the Labangon area and her marriage to a painter-husband made an inspiring impact on her artistic development. She considers this as a great factor in continuing her dream of becoming an accomplished artist. Thus, we extend to her our bienvenida...to the painter of lovely blooms who showed us that flowers could be a girl’s real best friend.
