Man baits girl, 2, with treats
Charges of rape and child abuse were filed yesterday against a 69-year-old man who allegedly abused a two-year-old girl in Moal-boal, Cebu, after winning her over with bread and P1.
The child’s 22-year-old mother filed the complaint and named Torteliano Gabales, a neighbor, as respondent in the assault that began last July until it was found out last month.
Based on the affidavit-complaint, Gabales’ assault was progressive.
Treats
First he allegedly got Nina (real name withheld) to like him by giving her treats like bread and a P1 coin and by clowning around whenever he and the child, usually accompanied by the mother, would have a chance meeting.
Then, when the child was used to him, Gabales allegedly lured her into his home alone by offering more treats. She began leaving her house and going to the old man’s place without her mother.
After that, he started touching Nina in the guise of playing with her. This progressed into molestation.
Incidents of sexual abuse in the province have been on the rise the past few months, sources inside the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor noted.
Three days before All Souls’ Day, an 18-year-old girl, also from Moalboal, charged a neighbor for raping and impregnating her.
A day after, charges were filed against a 14-year-old boy who allegedly got drunk and raped his four-year-old cousin while everybody was at a birthday party.
Vagina
In the complaint against Gabales, the first hints of molestation surfaced on the night of Aug. 26, 2005 when Nina came home crying because her vagina hurt.
But according to the girl’s mother, the child’s crying subsided immediately after she was given a bath.
This was not the last time Nina came home crying. But they still had no idea what happened to her, until Nina came home one night bleeding in the vagina.
She said she had been to Gabales’ home to borrow money to bring Nina to the hospital. But suspiciously, Gabales just gave them a bottle of Betadine and some feminine wash.
She said she then asked Nina how she really got her injury and the child replied that Gabales had inserted his finger into her vagina.
It was at this point that she reported the matter to the town police and brought her child to the hospital for tests.
It was found that girl was abused, the mother said. (KNR)
