Police stations to get web access

The Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) will soon be connected online with the police stations in the province.

Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia said she will distribute computer units with web cameras to all the police stations, including the 78th Infantry Battalion headquarters. The stations will have DSL Internet connections.

The police stations will also be connected to the Provincial and Regional Action Center in the Capitol.

By being online, the police stations can send or receive information immediately through the net.

Instead of relaying information through UHF radio, police can send confidential messages through e-mail.
Police and the Capitol can also hold a teleconference anytime using the web cams.

PRO 7 Deputy Director for Operations Lani-o Nerez welcomes the development, saying this will mean savings for the police, since they won’t have to buy reams of bond papers now that reporting will be “paperless.”

The computerization of the CPPO is among the priority projects of Acting CPPO Director Vicente Loot, which is also supported by the governor.

He had prepared his proposal for the project to Governor Garcia before he was relieved during his first stint as acting CPPO director.

Loot was relieved last May after two months of serving as CPPO officer-in-charge and was replaced by Senior Supt. Drusillo Bolodo.

But he was reinstalled to the position three months after his relief.

Garcia said the Province is willing to help police in terms of communication facilities and mobility.

She will soon be giving out more police jeeps to the police stations. (MBG)
