Speak out: Let us not rock the boat By Antero 'Jun' Cana President, Komentaristang Bisaya Region 7
Recent political developments in the country tend to sow chaos that, God forbids, may lead to destabilization and anarchy.
President Arroyo’s political detractors are into rumo-mongering, spreading the lie that the President won through massive fraud in the last elections.
I agree with Inquirer columnist Solita Collas-Monsod who, in her column dated Oct. 29, said that: “Like it or not, GMA is our legitimate president. Let us not allow ourselves to be misled by those who are themselves misled or who have their own political agenda.”
Lies repeated by anti-GMA groups and reported by the media may end up appearing as true. If the lies are left unattended, these might lead to disaster and will be disadvantageous to the country. People may believe them.
I firmly believe that public communicators, including radio broadcasters like me, are duty-bound to protect the interest of the people and the country against these lies.
It is imperative for the media to be united in the effort to protect the only government we have, one that, since the fall of the strongman and dictator Ferdinand Marcos, has been democratic.
Let it be known that the Komentaristang Bisaya, a group of broadcaster in Region 7, is strongly opposed to the lie that GMA won through massive fraud in the last polls.
For the interest of our nation, let us be one, then, and move to save the country from the economic and political crisis it is facing instead of rocking the boat that will lead to its downfall.
