MMA tourney at Coliseum this Friday
MIXED Martial Arts Entertainment Incorporated’s (MMAEI) “Only the Strong Survive 3” will be held on Friday at the Cebu Coliseum starting 8 p.m.
Unlike in OTSS 2 where mixed-martial-arts fights and kickboxing were alternated, OTSS 3 will have all MMA bouts. This could be the first time in the Philippines that two women will slug it out in an MMA competition. Eight matches will feature some of the best fighters in Cebu.
In the main event, two battle-tested warriors will take on each other. Sensei Cito Gesta, founder and instructor of Cito Martial Arts Club (C-Mac), will battle Jun Fernandez, founder and instructor of Western Kickboxing Club.
The two fought in a kickboxing match eight years ago. Jun Fernandez lost by unanimous decision but claimed he was cheated since the fight was promoted by Gesta.
In the undercard will be the unbeaten Paul Rebuquio against the experienced Jerming Ayuda. Rebuquio is 5-0 in kickboxing and mixed martial arts fights combined but Lazo is more experienced, having fought in a dozen kickboxing fights.
Adamson Torbiso of Durex Dragon was supposed to tangle with Reynaldo Combate of Multi-Style System.
However, Combate had an accident and couldn’t fight. Torbiso said he will fight anyone in his weight category on fight night.
Edmond Vegara will scuffle with Rene “Ironman” Noblefranca. Vergara is 10 years younger than Noblefranca but Noblefranca is unfazed by the age difference and vowed to flatten Vergara. In OTSS 2, Noblefranca scored a quick TKO win over a younger and bigger opponent.
Reynante Dioso will fight Pablo Santillan. Both are kickboxers who have knocked out previous opponents. Santillan is more experienced, having fought stand-up since his early 20s.
Jesse Adbada of C-Mac Bullet will tangle with Danilo Teves of Espia Camps, and Joerick Rivera and Justin Padillo are matched for Friday night.
