1,500 cops ready for SEA Games security duties

WITH only six days to go for the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 has finalized its security measures under the Task Force SEA Games 7.

PRO 7 Director Eduardo Gador told Sun.Star Cebu that at least 1,500 uniformed policemen have been designated to secure the areas where games will be held, the hotels where the players will stay, as well as the airport.

Army units will support the policemen and the elite officers who will bring with them bomb-sniffing dogs.

Gador, however, said he could not discuss the details of the security measures.

other venues.

Manila and Bacolod City are the two other main venues.

About 1,000 athletes and officials are expected in Cebu.

The Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) has prepared 105 policemen to secure the venues.

Danao City Police Chief Larson Dechino has been tasked to head the security team in venues and hotels where athletes and delegates will be staying in the city.

Dechino and Chief Insp. Romeo Perigo of the Operations Branch already inspected the Don Ramon Durano Sports Complex, El Salvador Hotel, Intosan Hotel and the bicycle racetrack where the mountain bike competition will take place.

The El Salvador Hotel is some 500 meters away from the venue of the mountain bike competition, while the Intosan Hotel is about 1.5 kilometers away.

The CPPO is requesting the Philippine Army to deploy soldiers in barangays surrounding the route of the cycling competition, which runs through Barangays Maslog, Sandayong Sur and Tuburan Sur.

The CPPO will handle the security in the venues. (JST)
