Rotary, Metrobank to honor country’s outstanding cops

THE “unsung heroes” of community service in the police will be honored in the search for the country’s outstanding policemen.

The Rotary Club of New Manila East, through its local chapter Rotary Club of Tabunok, signed a memorandum of agreement with Chief Supt. Eduardo Gador, Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 director, to launch in the region the nationwide search.

The search, which is already on its sixth year, is a joint project of the Philippine National Police, the Rotary Club of New Manila East and the Metrobank Foundation.

Gador urged the public to support the project, as this will help policemen, particularly in boosting their morale.
Those with the rank of police officer 1 to superintendent are qualified for the search.

Any individual, organization, or association may nominate one or more policemen for the award by filling up a nomination form at their police regional headquarters or at any Metrobank branch.

Forms

Each form must be signed by the police regional director, the nominee’s city or provincial director and president of a duly chartered Rotary Club.

For those in Central Visayas, the forms are available at the PRO 7 headquarters in Camp Sergio Osmeña on Osmeña Blvd., Cebu City.

The deadline for the submission of nominees is on Nov. 29, the club’s Tabunok president Oliver Oro said.

All the nominees’ names will be forwarded to Manila on Dec. 9 for final judging.

Because the deadline for the submission of nominees is fast approaching, Gador said the PRO 7 has decided to form its own screening committee, tapping station chiefs in the cities and provinces in the region to submit their respective nominees.

Each awardee receives P150,000 and a trophy.

The competition will award 10 winners. Four of them will go to male non-commissioned officers (those with the rank of PO1 to SPO4), two others will go to female non-commissioned officers and four to commissioned officers, regardless of gender.

Supt. Louie Oppus, chief of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Station, and Supt. Rey Lyndon Lawas, chief of the Firearms, Explosives and Security Agencies/Guards Supervisory Section, were among the previous awardees of the search. (JST)
